Above - a soldier from the 369th Infantry
Regiment who were known as the "Harlem
Hellfighters". Originally they were the 15th
NY N.G. but were redesignated the 369th in
1918. When this unit, which was made up of
black soldiers, was sent to France the US
Army put them to work as laborers.
Eventually the French would incorporate
them into their army, supplying them with
French helmets and rifles as the soldier
above is pictured. The unit would go on to
fight valiantly earning one medal of honor
and numerous distinguished service
crosses.

21cm German Morser pictured above left at
the Virginia War Museum in 2002. According
to Dick Pope's list and my own travels there
appear to be seven of these large mortars
located in the US. The one directly left
which I am standing in front of is located in
Fall River Mass. At one time it was probably
on display as a war memorial but at one
point it was moved and now sits alongside a
maintenance shed in Kennedy Park by St.
Annes Shrine and has been rusting here
and slowly sinking into the mud ever since.
